It might have better healthcare, education, equality and average minimal wages, but Sweden is not a good country for unsigned artists, says singer/songwriter Fredrik Sundström.
The 25-year-old Swede, who got frustrated of playing behind closed doors in his room, says: “As an unsigned artist in Sweden there isn’t that many opportunities to get gigs. I remember going from Gothenburg, my old hometown, all the way to Stockholm – to do an open mic night. That’s a journey that takes you five hours to make. I played for 15 minutes.”
